Limewash painting in London & Surrey
Soft, cloud-like walls with natural movement, brushed on in layers.

Prepared properly, finished by hand
Limewash is a traditional finish made from lime. It is applied in thin, brushed layers that dry with gentle variation in tone, giving walls a soft, chalky depth that flat paint can't match.
Because it is breathable, limewash suits older homes with lime plaster and solid walls, where moisture needs to move freely. It also works beautifully on modern plaster with the right primer.
We apply limewash with large brushes in overlapping, cross-hatched strokes, building up two or more coats until the depth and movement look right.

Limewash: common questions
Is limewash the same as paint?
No. Paint forms a film on the wall; limewash soaks in and cures into the surface. That gives a softer, more variable finish and lets the wall breathe.
Can limewash go on any wall?
It works best on porous, mineral surfaces such as lime plaster, brick and stone. Modern gypsum plaster and previously painted walls need a suitable primer first.
Will every wall look the same?
Limewash naturally varies in tone, which is part of its appeal. We test a sample on your wall first so you can see the effect before we start.
